We are accepting applications for a limited waitlist for Housing Choice Vouchers on May 15-31, 2019.

Housing Choice Vouchers

Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) provide rental assistance towards the cost of rent in the private rental market.

Limited Waitlist Opening:
ONLY for Adults (18-61) with Disabilities Who are Homeless or Leaving Institutional Settings

We will take applications for this waitlist beginning at:
8:00 am on Wednesday, 5/15/19 through 5:00 pm on 5/31/19

If you already have a Housing Voucher, you cannot apply for this program.

Housing Catalyst will be accepting applications to be placed on a waitlist for housing vouchers, which assist with rent payments. This opportunity is only for households that meet ALL these requirements:

One adult in the household must have a documented disability.   
AND
The person with the disability must be between the ages of 18 and 61.
AND
Your household is experiencing homelessness OR is transitioning out of an institutional or other segregated setting and would be homeless upon discharge.

Examples of institutional or segregated settings may include but are not limited to:

  • A jail or other correctional facilities
  • A group home or adult foster care for individuals with disabilities
  • A nursing facility, rehabilitation facility or other recuperative care facility
  • An inpatient treatment facility for mental health, substance abuse disorders or other disabilities

This waitlist is ONLY for individuals and families that meet this very specific criteria.

Only one application from each family will be accepted. Applicants will be selected through a random drawing process and placed on a waitlist. Applicants that are not selected will not be placed on the waitlist. Date and time of application WILL NOT affect an applicant’s position on the waitlist.

We will post the application numbers of all selected applicants in our office, on our website and at the Murphy Center on June 10, 2019.

Applications will be available beginning 8:00 am May 15, 2019, at the address listed below and online here.

Housing Voucher Eligibility Guidelines

The combined income of the household cannot exceed the maximum income listed below.

  • Applicants must meet citizenship or eligible immigration requirements.
  • Household members 18 years of age or older must have a background free of recent violent or drug-related criminal activity.
  • Household members may not owe money to another housing authority because of a previous tenancy.
  • Applicants must also pass the screening criteria of the landlord.

What is a Housing Voucher and what does it do?
A housing voucher is a voucher that is used to pay a portion of your rent based on your income.

I think I’m eligible, how do I apply?
You’ll need to complete an application between May 15-May 31, 2019.
These applications will be available at Housing Catalyst’s office and on the website on these dates. Applications can be mailed, faxed or dropped off at our office or you can apply online.
If applications are mailed, they must be received by May 31, 2019.

I need help or have questions about my application.

What if I don’t have an address for you to contact me?
We will also try to contact you by phone or email. You can go to the Murphy Center at 242 Conifer Street to get an address there, or you may put down the contact information of a friend, family member or case manager who can serve as your contact.

How can I get help from a service provider while I am waiting for housing assistance?

Is this a first come, first served process?
No. Housing Catalyst will randomly select applicants to place on the waitlist. All eligible applications received during the waitlist opening will have an equal chance of being selected.

Will my chances be better if I apply more than once?
No, every household can only apply once. Duplicate applications will be removed from the list.

What is the process once my application has been submitted?
A random drawing will determine which applicants will be added to our waitlist and in which order. Applicants added to our waitlist will be pulled from our waitlist and screened for eligibility based on their placement order on the list.

When will I find out if I was selected for the waitlist?
We will post the application numbers of all selected applicants in our office and on our website on June 10, 2019.

If I am added to the waitlist, what happens next?
Applicants will be pulled in the order they were placed on the waitlist when vouchers are available. When an applicant is pulled from the waitlist, Housing Catalyst will ask for documentation verifying eligibility. Once eligibility is confirmed, applicant households are invited to a briefing where they will receive information about the voucher program. Applicants receive their voucher at the briefing and are then responsible for identifying an eligible rental unit in Fort Collins where they can use their voucher.

How do I inform Housing Catalyst if my address changes after I submit my application?
We need to be able to contact you by mail. Always inform Housing Catalyst of changes to your address or other contact information by completing a Waitlist Change Form. This form is located on our website under Forms & Documents. You may also pick up a form in our office or call/email to have one sent to you. Please either mail, email or fax your completed form to our office.

I’m not eligible, but I still need housing. What should I do?

  • Information about Housing Catalyst’s rental housing with below market rents can be found here: VillagesFortCollins.com
  • Information about other housing assistance in the community can be found at 211.org or by dialing 211.
  • If you are already on our waitlist for a Housing Choice Voucher, you don’t need to do anything.

The Project-Based Housing Vouchers waitlist is closed. 

Project-Based Vouchers

Project-Based Vouchers (PBV) provide rental assistance towards the cost of rent in specific apartments within Housing Catalyst’s Villages properties. These are only eligible at designated apartments.

The PBV Program provides quality rental housing for families, seniors and persons with disabilities who are earning incomes incomes below 50% of the Area Median Income (see Housing Voucher eligibility guidelines above).

Wait List Change Form

Any change in your mailing address, name, family members or income must be reported to us on a Wait List Change Form. This is especially important so we can contact you and keep your unit size current with your household size. If we cannot contact you by mail, your name will be removed from the wait list.

You can download and complete this form if you would like to add another contact person to your application for housing. This may be a family member, friend, or social, health, advocacy, or other organization. This contact information is for the purpose of identifying a person or organization that may be able to help in resolving any issues that may arise during your tenancy or to assist in providing any special care or services you may require.
